5 Senses of Autumn

5 Senses of Autumn

Autumn is officially here! I absolutely LOVE this time of year. Everything about it creates exciting, holiday-esque vibes, from the smell of the seasonal candles to the sound of leaves crunching under my feet.

Here’s autumn in five senses and my favorite parts of each of them!

1) Smell

Bath & Body Works Candles

Candles are one of my favorite ways to bring the fall season indoors. Scents of pumpkin, caramel, and leaves just bring such joy to my heart! My favorite autumnal candles are from Bath & Body Works.

You guys, this fall season B&BW’s candle game is STRONG. They are pretty much always amazing, but this year the packaging is so flipping adorable and the scents are better than ever. If you pass a store, definitely take a sniff! But be warned, you will not go home empty handed!

Crisp Air

There is something about fall, brisk air that just makes me want to take a deep breath. I’ll occasionally catch distinct scents of apple, bonfires, and damp earth. It’s chilly but also fresh and enlivening. Ahhh — just thinking of it gets me excited for our cooler days to come!

2) Hearing

Leaves crunching

Whether we’re going for a walk or building a leaf pile, hearing the crunch of fall leaves is just satisfying. Having grown up in Houston, crunchy leaves were foreign to me until I left for college. Yes, I was the 20-year-old walking around campus looking for the next perfect leaf to step on.

This year I’ve already started passing my love of crunching leaves to Nolan, who finds it to be just as much fun as I do! πŸ™‚

3) Taste

Pumpkin everything

I’m pretty sure there is a button somewhere that someone pushes every year on September 1st that triggers pumpkins to take over everything! Pumpkin coffee, pumpkin pastries, actual pumpkins, everywhere pumpkins! Call me basic but I flippin’ love it.

PS: Have you tried the new Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Latte from Starbucks? It’s incredible.

4) Sight

Leaves changing color

This is a common one but still worth mentioning. I mean, does it get more beautiful?

Football

Go Buckeyes! (Had to do it.)

As soon as football starts I KNOW fall is here. Full disclosure: I don’t always watch every minute of every game. BUT I do enjoy watching and I looove the energy that having a good game on the TV creates in the house. Add an autumnal beer or apple cider mimosa and that’s my idea of a perfect Saturday night in October!

5) Touch

Cozy sweaters

The change of seasons from summer to fall also means a change in wardrobe. Yay for getting to wear things we haven’t worn in six months! One of my favorite fall clothing essentials is sweaters!

I love me a good, soft sweater. I actually have multiples in more than one. Because when you find the perfect sweater, why only have it in one color?

Fluffy blankets

I’m a year-round blankets girl, but sweating under a blanket in the summer is just not the same as cozying up under one when it’s chilly outside. Even better — slipping into cold sheets and slowly warming up under the comfiness of a fluffy throw. Yassss.

  1. I loved reading this post. It was nice relaxing one as I am snuggling under my blanket having nice chilled evening. I could have unlimited numbers of candles and every time I buy some those autumn flavours are just incredible.

  2. I’m absolutely with you here! Fall is my favorite season for all the reasons you mentioned. We have just had a run of weather that was more like July – in the 90s here in Maine – and today it’s finally more seasonal and actually feels like fall! Also enjoying the foliage – never get tired of seeing it every fall and it goes by way too quickly!

  3. The smell of Autumn is going strong right now and pumpkin spice everything is out right now, I kind of love it. Another sense of Autumn is when you see an isle of decoration for both Halloween and Christmas.
