5 Favorites: August 2017

Every month I share some of my favorite things from the last month. Here are some things I’ve been loving throughout the month of August!

1) Fresh Pasta

You guys — this is life changer. Or at least a dinner changer.

I’ve eaten boxed pasta my entire life and never considered anything else. I don’t think I even realized non-boxed pasta was an option until one glorious day I noticed a new section at my favorite grocery store. It had about 6 different types of fresh pasta in different flavors and sizes — garlic & chive, tomato basil, lemon pepper, and more.

My favorite brand of fresh pasta is local, but you can find similar brands that’s are more widely available like Buitoni and Giovani Rana. Add some protein, veggies, and seasoning (plus cheese if you’re a cheesaholic like me) and you’ve got an amazing, restaurant quality meal.

2) “Cool Mom Shoes”

When I think of how to describe these shoes, “cool mom shoes” is what comes to mind. That’s how my 20-year-old sister described my similarly-styled Keds and I’m pretty sure she nailed it — although it did make me feel incredibly old!

I found these lace up Pumas at Costco of all places! They have a couple color options — black and light grey. I went with black but have been tempted to go back for a grey pair because I love them so much.

I think these shoes are such a good mix between cute and sporty! They’re made with a comfortable, lightweight mesh material, making them perfect for running errands or going out for a casual meal.

Plus they were only $25, so you can buy them without even “needing” them and still be guilt free! 🙂

3) CozyPhones Kids Headphones

This month we traveled to Oklahoma for a family reunion (check out my 5 Tips for Traveling with a Toddler) and these headphones were a lifesaver!

They are a soft fleece material so they are much more comfortable than earbuds (which I’d never use with a toddler anyway) or the big plastic-y cups that go over your ears.

The cord comes out the back so Nolan didn’t even realize it was there. It also has a threaded covering so you don’t have to worry about it breaking or wires popping out.

Nolan was able to happy watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for a couple hours without disturbing other passengers. However, I will say that he did eventually get hot from the fleece — so that’s something to keep in mind.

All in all, I think they were a GREAT purchase and we’ll definitely use them more in the future. CozyPhones has several other designs, too, if the frog doesn’t suit your fancy! 🙂

4) Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc + Viognier White Blend

As you may have gathered from last week’s blog post, over the last couple months my weekends have included drinking a lot of yummy mixed drinks. BUT Justin and I have (finally) found a wine that we BOTH enjoy, and we’ve enjoyed drinking an occasional glass together after a long work day. He usually prefers reds and I typically go for whites, but a trip to Napa earlier this year broadened our horizons and caused us to explore some mutual options — and now we’ve fallen in love with this one!

It’s fairly dry, but it VERY smooth. It’s described by Pine Ridge as having “a crisp, refreshing finish that unleashes provocative notes of white peaches, pineapple, and zesty citrus.” I don’t know about all that — I just know it’s delicious.

We’ve found it in our local grocery stores, Target, and Costco. It seems to range from $12-14 per bottle depending on where you get it, with Costco being the cheapest.

5) eos Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream

I have really sensitive leg skin. Weird, I know, but my legs hate a vast majority of skincare products. Even “moisturizing” products dry them out. They get super itchy and, when I cave into the itch too much, irritated.

Shaving seems to exacerbate my legs’ unhappiness, so there’s a very fine line that I dance to figure out what shaving products I can actually use. Fortunately, this cream is one of those products.

I discovered this stuff when I couldn’t find a travel size of my usual shaving cream at the store. We were traveling the next day, so I hesitantly decided to give this one a try and I’m so glad I did!

I finished my travel size tube and bought a full size bottle, so I think that officially makes me a convert.

The formula is much creamier than the gel-to-foam stuff I usually use, which makes it very moisturizing for my sensitive skin. It also smells amazing! I went with the Pomegranate Raspberry scent, but they have a few others as well.

If you get razor burn, or any other kind of post-shaving irritation, I highly recommended trying this stuff!

  1. I really love those cozy headphones. My little man is always asking to borrow our “iphones” that’s whats he calls our headphones lol. But they’re too big for him. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I need those headphones for my daughter! She is always breaking hers so she uses mine but they fall out of her tiny little ears. I also have the most sensitive skin ever and I am so prone to razor bumps! I didn’t even know eos had shaving cream.
